Founded in the 1940’s as an attempt to house all the animals mentioned in the Bible (many no longer indigenous to Israel), the zoo today also features species from every continent. Even though it is formally named “The Tisch Family Zoological Gardens in Jerusalem,” most people still call it by its original name: the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo. It covers 62 acres in a lovely valley with green hills, a small lake fed by pools and waterfalls, spacious lawns and shady beauty spots. The zoo, built on two main levels that house most of the animal exhibits, is elegantly laid out and easy to navigate; enclosures of the biblical animals are labeled with appropriate biblical quotes. A giant aquarium is under construction and set for a 2016 opening. The Tisch Family Zoological Gardens in Jerusalem it’s a must for children and adults of all ages.
